The ice has been gone from Fort Peck for some time now but the wind that has kept the water frothed up continues to hold water temperatures down. We keep checking with anglers who go to Devils Creek and though they are catching a few walleye, nothing big yet. It is still pretty early for the bigger walleye. For the fisherman who just can’t wait to feel something tugging on their line, Northern Pike are being caught in the bays. Lake trout are up to the 15-25′ range and can be caught pulling deep diving crank baits.
We are preparing for our annual move to the lake sometime this month, getting set for May kick off. Our calendar for May is pretty full, which means our guests agree that the water will warm faster this year than usual so we should have good success earlier than normal.
